I chased my muse away. The canvas stands forlorn a symbol of the dawn. No art today it seems a common sight. But people passing by don't know the reason why. How could they know just what this message means? The end of all my hopes the end of all my dreams. How could they know a palace there had been? Behind the door where my art reigned as queen. artists are the penultimate whores

Their every thought, their every tear, aesthetically repackaged for public consumption. Perhaps that's why I love animals, they don't repackage. That's not to say it's not difficult to be an artist. It takes a certain dumb bravery to commit to one brush stroke or flick of a pen over another. Even configuring a blog is a slog, entailing too many choices, Geneva font or Ariel, an underlined or bold trackback. Each choice then public, ripe for ridicule or indifference.link

Scouty + the cats

Ollie doesn't seem to notice Scouty's absence, but Bad Betty's wandering around the house, meowing. Scouty was here, six years ago, when BB arrived from the SPCA. Without Scouty, I fear we have become, shudder, "cat" people.

We were there and we were not there when she died. If we had realized she was dying we would have been all there. And that is what we try not to dwell on now. Instead we strive to remember that in her entire life of not quite thirteen years, a person could count on the fingers of one hand the number of times she was left alone for more than a few hours or didn't get at least one walk a day, and in her younger years, when she was strong and eager, that meant a good, long walk, most often up Mount Royal which she loved. Particularily the tennis courts to retreive the many lost tennis balls she brought home.

My mother met Michael Douglas and Farrah Fawcet at the airport. She asked them if they had room in their suitcase to bring me some stuff to Montreal. They must have said yes, because they rang my doorbell. I invited them in. They were very nice and I thought how am I going to get them and Michael Sarrazin together?
