lotsa problems

with this mother. figure gets too big, unwieldly, colours get too kleenex box, brushstrokes get too tentative...will leave it alone for a week or so.

plastic toys

D had a meeting with a producer but his face was smeared so he had to go wash it. the producer met me and remembered me as the person who loved plastic toys. I was wearing a plastic broach I had made -- a big piece of foliage from the dollar store. I told her D was on his way and she said why don't you come to the meeting, I love your plastic toys. so we went to this place which was inside but was a big sand box, sort of, semi-submerged in murky water, full of really cool plastic toys. there were six or seven women of all ages sitting quietly on couches. I tried to call D but instead I got a woman from Rogers Canada who asked me if I wanted a Mercedes, I said no, I wanted to talk to D, then she hung up. I was getting bored waiting so I went to talk to the women who were really excited because I was going to give them a talk about expediency. I smiled and said sure, but for the life of me I couldn't remember what "expediency" meant. How was I going to talk about something I didn't know about?

thursday already. 8:33 and it's dark out. that sucks. debating whether to go to cottage on sat morning -- weather iffy. but summer's almost over. hmmmm.

chugging along, shadows need work, edges, too, but it has a luminescence which is working. Had a huge technical breakthru today about the difference between transparent and opaque colours. Have been screwing up my paintings for a year by adding titanium white to colours. Instead of brighting, it's totally killed light. Hmmm.

finished already

can't fuss anymore with this one. Photo sucks, but in real life you can see the grain of the wood, and it's a square. 30 x 30.

the fishing guy. D. As for suffering for your art I dropped one of these mother wood panels on my right foot today and now it's swollen and aching. good thing it's summer because a shoe would not fit over it. Harumph.

another blissful weekend

sketching clouds, differentiating trees, millions of blue hues, snapping canoes from canoes,fueled by meat, Z+E, altho neither guilt or conscious freely. am bonding with this stretch of shield. awfultario not so awful, thank you again, so much, munificent maritimer meanderers!

I had to go to war the next morning, but I couldn't find my contacts. I asked everyone to help me but no one could be bothered. I already had a black eye, and my little red Zone glasses, reading glasses I bought for 20 bucks, were already broken. I was so mad. I had to go to war in the morning and no one was helping me.

still don't have the water down, friend, painter saw them today and thought water was snow...hmm.

pretty sketchy, just blocking and laying in colours, trying to be looser, more atmospheric and gestural

day 3, 1/2 work day, nail in tire

just adding more layers, enriching the sky, working the water, still not nearly right, and building up the land mass and tree

day 2

spent all day adding more alizarin crimson, cadmium orange, yellow ochre, prussian blue. staining, wiping, smudging, smooshing. removing. colours still not right. trees suck, but they're starting to gain stability. need more linseed oil. some cool textures on top, though. want radiate light and colour without the garishness, also going for ironic nostalgia, tinted photos feel, why I'm not sure, just seems right. otherwise, I'm in calendar territory, deliberating on text. enhances or distracts, hmm.
