"An artist's brain works differently than a nonartist's. Robert Solso put well known Br portrait artist Humphrey Ocean into a magnetic resonance imaging scanner while Ocean drew + then compared his brain activity with that of nonartists who also drew while inside the scanner. Their brains lit up quite differently. That is, while the nonartists seem to exercise the visual areas of their brains in particular, Ocean seemed to exercise areas that barely registered in the nonartists, areas in the front of the brain that have to do with intentionality + focus, with holding goals in mind. The contrasting scans suggest that Ocean was coordinating his brain in ways the nonartists did not. Says Solso, "an artist thinks the painting as much as he sees the painting. With Ocean, the frontal parts of the brain were more active than they were in the non-artists. It's pretty good evidence that a truly oustanding artist is really looking inside..." Okay..."intentionality+focus+holding goals in mind". check.
