Pink split, oil on paper

No, this is not remotely new, but having just been in BC + Alberta, I saw tons of these "vintage" splits. When I get back to Montreal I think I'll continue this series because I love the look of these splits + soon they will all be gone. Meanwhile I do hope to hook up with a "data retreiver" to retreive the contents of my poor kaput hard-drive.

my computer is a...

what I need, apparently is a "data retreiver" the uber hip + cool green tee shirted "genius" guys +gals at the "genius bar" at the Eaton's Centre, downtown TO, tell me. My computer is fried. My computer aka "my life" so I'm a bit devastated. I have NO ONE'S emails anymore. So I implore anyone who knows me to send me an e-mail to my sympatico address..I can still retreive those thru the bosoms of Mother Bell. My videotron e-mails...not. And poor Angus isn't that swell either. He caught the Toronto kennel cough plague going around the city, plus he hurt his paw + is limping + making me feel extremely guilty that I deserted him.

woe is me, my computer has crashed, using hubs powerbook.   We went to the Badlands + all I got was this damn question mark on my desktop.  Hopefully, the million pix of the Rockies, Vancouver, the Fraser river, etc. are still intact.  So tomorrow, back to Toronto, family/friends + sweet Angus, sorely missed.

off to TO again in the morn, then Calgary + Vancouver confident that Angus, the most sensitive dog in the world, plus the 2 cats, Ollie + Bad Betty are exceedingly well taken care off...So looking forward to seeing the Rockies...painting the Rockies.

boarding place for sweet Angus?  He's a very sensitive fellow + would be traumatized for life to be sent to a prison-type kennel.  Most of the fabulous boarding places are booked, natch,  as Quebec begins another one of it's ridiculous mob/mass rituals: "the construction holiday" the last 2 weeks of July wherein everyone takes off for vacation at the same time.   Including this year, stupidly, me.   Planning a trip west, spontaneously, if I can find a small, loving, rural haven for A.

Cool! Big write up about Pat Pink's Envelope Show

in today's Montreal Gazette, the Culture section (E) page 8, "Visual Arts". Oh + did I mention I was mentioned? Henry Lehmann, the Gazette's art critic writes:" Edith Rey, in her lovely but pessimistic work, gently gets us where it most hurts, in the realization we all may ultimately lead more or less the same life. Rey's straightforward piece, titled While I was Waiting, simply uses the paper as paper to draw on; it depicts life's milestones. Translucent images of people seemingly fading from view and memory are capped with hand-printed captions: I Gave Birth to Two Girls and I Fell in Love." Thanks Henry...personally I thought "poignant", rather than "pessimistic"...but how you interpret art is personal, so there you go.

Wherein we were requested to do anything with the envelope + its contents, 8 sheets of paper. So I did 8 auto-biographical watercolours of
momentuous events of my life while the sheets of paper sat in the envelopes...since 1957. On the cover I wrote, "All your life you were only waiting for this moment to arrive." On the 8 pieces of paper I painted images which corresponded with text.... "While you waited, I received the Holy Ghost. I saw the best movie ever made. I fell in love. I met a cow who loved CBC FM. I got married. I had two girls. My father died. I loved and was loved by four fine dogs". And for people who did see the show + wondered what the best movie ever made was...not "Old Yeller." There are windmills in "Old Yeller". The movie was "Dog of Flanders" natch.

pat pink's envelope show, extended to July 22

has been extended...it's a fine show, some evocative works...so interesting to see what so many artists do with the same thing.

keeping with the vase theme...here's a big one kicking around my studio. I worked on the bg 2 days ago to give it more texture...it's still a bit frozen looking to me, as I move closer + closer to abstract expressionism it seems....

went to my studio today..haven't gone for weeks, for personal reasons I would divulge here now, if ever...+ I'm looking around at my paintings + it's scary how many I've done...this one, I've liked from git go...it's kinda hockney, kinda hopper kinda me. And the vase is a real McCoy, my first. I bought it at an auction in the townships for 10$ years ago. Not that I'd ever part with it.

as much as we love the montreal alleys

angus definitely needs dog parks. Lately, we've been on a mission to scout out more in Montreal, other than the Mountain (unofficial, but the best). Today we checked out "Trudeau's park"just below Trudeau's house -- now the filmmaker' son -- aka "Dr. Penfield/du musee. fenced: yes benches: yes, comments: The most beautiful dog park in town--it may not be 'official' but the City of Monreal treats it like it is--dog-level fountains, extra garbages for poop" this from a site: dog parks in quebec + it was nice. Shade, fresh water, safe, with a good fence + today, friendly people + dogs.
