Hallelujah! 365 joys!

I am so setting myself up.  I'm planning for the next 365 days to do a painting of something that gives me personal joy.  Because I have to post to my Daily Painting site the night before it will get a bit wonky.  After this post I'll post my first joy of the year, the return of the prodigal Z to Montreal, accompanied by the talented C. Toronto's loss.  In the meantime, Happy New Year tout le monde.

Happenchanced on this site this morning.  Never seen anything like it. Can't believe it's legal.  It's basically an online puppy mill for young girls. Holy moly. check it out, yuck! cuz it's a joke altho it does expose crazy american marriage laws

speaking of sick dogs, yesterday yet another puppy mill got busted in Quebec

These puppy mills will keep existing until people stop buying puppies at pet stores which they don't seem to be stopping so maybe it's time stores were banned from selling puppies (and kittens) outright. Make them go to the SPCA or a reputable, licensed breeder or other animal shelter's like, locally,Angus's alma mater or  Rosie's.

I have been + watching too much tv, with a fever,  not for the faint of heart. Overusing sick as a ...and wondering where that came from, actually. So went to Michael Quinion's fine blog and found...."There are several expressions of the form sick as a ..., that date from the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. Sick as a dog is actually the oldest of them, recorded from 1705; it is probably no more than an attempt to give force to a strongly worded statement of physical unhappiness. It was attached to a dog, I would guess, because dogs often seem to have been linked to things considered unpleasant or undesirable; down the years they have had an incredibly bad press, linguistically speaking (think of dog tired, dog in the manger, dog’s breakfast, go to the dogs, dog Latin — big dictionaries have long entries about all the ways that dog has been used in a negative sense)."to read all

Quebec election, rebel Mercier (my) riding, Amir Khadir wins

the only Quebec solidaire winner.  According to wikipedia, "QS presents itself as an alternative to the main three parties in Quebec: the Parti Québécois, the Parti libéral du Québec, and the Action démocratique du Québec, saying that all three are but different faces of the sameright-wing ideology called neoliberalism. It also holds that its view of an independent Quebec is a completely different project than that of the PQ. Rather than working for independence for its own sake, QS works for an internationalist independentism - an independence based on principles of social justice. Independentism is, for QS, a means to an end, not an end in itself."  Internationalist independentism?  Whatever does that mean?  I did my civic duty at 100 below today, driving to the polling station.

okay another not recent painting.  I gave this one away to someone I barely know who thought her mother might like it.  Well, I hope she did because, looking at it 3-4 yrs after I painted it, I like it.  But that's the good thing about being the artist I could just do another, altho I know that would never happen.  Paintings have their time + place.
