Especially the children...specifically the girls. Lately three young women have been murdered or violently attacked -- by their families! -- in Canada...
Aqsa Parvez,
Tiffany Gale,Bahar Ebrahimi. I came with my parents from Switzerland (where women didn't get to vote until 1971) to Vancouver during the 50's. You'd hardly think there was a huge cultural divide between the two countries but when it came to bringing up a daughter...well, let's say in the late 60's to not be allowed to go out with boys, wear make-up, stay out after midnight, have my own opinions on just about anything, etc. caused much strife + stress + I left the nest at the earliest legal age possible. At the time my more acclimatized to Canada friends' families + parents were a great help + I would hope that is still the case for most young immigrants today.
