On Monday, September 14, NBC NY will launch a brand new lifestyle show called LX New York, which will replace the 5 o'clock news in the NY tri-state area (NY, NJ, CT). The live, daily lifestyle show will feature the latest in fashion, gossip, food and New York-centric stories. LX New York, hosted by Sara Gore, Siafa Lewis and Michael Flocker, will also feature celebrity guests.

Over the course of one hour in this inaugural episode, decorator and on-air personality Courtney Cachet  will transform a couple's living room from plain to "lounge chic", by adding fabulous paintings and other decorative elements as well as new furniture. Courtney has chosen to work with DailyPainters.com gallery and selected striking works from artists Edith Dora Rey and Tim Gagnon.

DailyPainters.com was founded in 2006 by artist Micah Condon and has since grown to include over 120 artists. DailyPainters.com artists have been featured in The New York Times, USA Weekend Magazine, The Boston Globe, Art Business News, Domino Magazine, The Washington Express, Wired Magazine, and more.

(So....locally, I don't think I even get the channel, here in Montreal but I'm sure it will be taped + I'll see it later...if the segment doesn't get cut or whatever...)

O, I didn't know until a few moments ago this show was called "Imagine a Garden Show".  I've been working on some new paintings for the show coming up this weekend but had I known the name earlier I might have, a la Yoko Ono, imagined some new work for the show.  Too late. 

And it's a quadruple whammy this weekend.  A vernissage, a birthday ( ahem), a return home from the family's prodigal father/husband from a historically cold Alberta + Victoria Day weekend, a celebration of the Sovereign's birthday (Canada is, afterall, a member of the Commonwealth of Nations of which Queen Elizabeth is head). Of course, here in Quebec it isn't called Victoria Day it's called National Patriot's day (Journée nationale des Patriotes) + I've been told in Ontario it's called 2-4 day (as in a case of 24 beer)  but I don't know if that's true. 

Ageism?

Saw this on Amy Stein's blog + thought I'd post it too as it's pretty relevant to me + everyone else in art who isn't in their 20's...it's an article about age...should the age of an artist matter?

that would be Post Vernissage Depression, as all artists vividly know. The best thing (in the keeping yourself grounded category) I ever read about art making some years ago...can't remember where. Some artist was complaining that they spent so much time working on their art + no one was buying it (I am not complaining, people are buying) and some wag replied, well, no one asked you to make the art. Well, too true. But I can complain about our current gov'ts disrespect towards the arts. This year the ceremony in Ottawa, honouring the artists who received the Order of Canada for their contribution towards the arts wasn't even televised by our national tv station, the CBC. Tsk, tsk. By all reports, it was a dazzling evening with some of the brightest, shiniest stars performing + did Canadians get to see this? Nyet.
And there is a trickle down effect. A country that doesn't honour its artists is No Country for Old or Young (wo)Men.
